The Ballantynes Fire

Kia ora everyone welcome back to my blog today we are learning about the Ballantynes fire, I hope you enjoy!!

I think this is about a fire in the Ballantynes store

I want to find out what has caused this fire and I want to find out how long it took to put it out. did the building burn down

1.People were served by waitresses in aprons and caps, expensive clothes were sold and ladies wore gloves and hats
2. Christchurch
3.November 18th, 1947 at 3.46pm

4.They had no smoke alarms or evacuation plans. downstairs workers thought it was just a small cellar fire so didn't tell the people downstairs

5.41 workers died in the fire, Two people jumped from the verandah and were unconscious but recovered

6.No smoking inside the building, dont just walk past fire and not tell others, they now have smoke alarms, have an evaluation plan.

The fire started about 4 in the afternoon
Army and air force helped the fireman
They pumped water for 4 hours from 36 hoses

This next video wasn't useful because it was to long, and the audio was unclear and hard to hear

Resources used the video link above

I am learning about the Ballantynes fire,
The poster shows my learning because it has the information from the videos we watched,
I want to know how long it took to put out the fire and rebuild the building,
My prediction about it being a fire in the Ballantynes store was correct.

Blind Taste Testing

 Aim:

I want to find out how we taste food.

Research:

Taste buds have very sensitive microscopic hairs called microvilli (say: mye-kro-VILL-eye). Those tiny hairs send messages to the brain about how something tastes, so you know if it's sweet, sour, bitter, or salty.

Skittle Colours Experiment

 Aim:

I want to find out what happens when you mix Skittle colours

Method:

Equipment

  • Skittles
  • Petri Dish
  • Warm Water
  • Becker
  • White Background
Instructions
  1. Get your equipment
  2. Place your Petri dish on the White Background
  3. Put your Skittles around the inside edge of the Petri dish
  4. Gently, Pour warm water into the middle of the Petri dish
  5. Observe what happens.
Prediction:

I think all the colours will spread and the Skittles colour will fade

I was kinda right the Skittles Colour kinda faded, When the Colours touched they didn't mix

Discussion:

  1. The Colours Dissolved (When a solid is mixed into a liquid, creating a solution
2,Why do Colours Move? (Skittles and coated in sugar and food colouring and each Skittle has a sightly  different chemical made up which so when it dissolved spreading through the water, then the sugar dissolve into the warm water.)

The Treaty Of Waitangi

 Kia ora Everyone,

Welcome back to my blog! These past few weeks we have been learning about The Treaty of Waitangi, We Had to pick two Questions and Answer them!

Here is what I have put,

1.How would the treaty of Waitangi be different if it was signed by Children?

It would be different laws then it is now and probably be less important, and it would be less mature.

1.If no one at all could translate the Treaty of waitangi how would life in New Zealand be different?

People that are new to New Zealand wouldn’t understand it, and it would be

less important because only some people can understand it.

Celebrating the 179th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi - Waitangi

Thank you for Viewing my blog post, How Would you think The Treaty would be different if it was signed by Children?
